Men's Fashion Monday: The Kings Speech

This past Sunday The King's Speech took home the highly coveted Best Picture at The Academy Awards. I took this as a sign that I should probably see it, being that I had not even heard of it until that point.  Despite the fact that the first half the film is basically a Public Speaking 1001, I give the film two thumbs up.  Amidst the dramatic tension and British accents (which I wish I had) came a bevy of great costume design, highlighting traditional British style.  The movie showcases the three piece suit at its best, with timeless layering techniques.  This came alongside a bevy of patterned bowties/neckties to die for.  Costume designer, Jenny Beaven, did an amazing job.

See you next Monday!

Oscar Sunday

Hey guys! Claire here. I completely spaced & forgot to update the blog last night, so I'm just going to do a quick one now!! In honor of the Oscars tonight, I decided to dedicate my blog this week to Oscar gowns I’ve loved from years past. Every year I look forward to see what everyone is wearing on the red carpet, because the Oscars is definitely primetime for big, beautiful ballgowns & elegant looks!! So these are dresses from more recent years- can’t wait to see what everyone is wearing tonight!

Even though Miley Cyrus is known for music/television, she has presented at the Oscars for the past three years. And her gowns are my FAVORITE!!!

Hope everyone has a great week!

A frozen reality check.

Hey there Trax followers,

This is Bridget bringing you your daily dose of Twin Cities fashion! Now if any of you have ventured outside in the last couple of days, you know that it has been freezing. Even though spring is fast approaching, we still have a few long weeks of bone-chilling winter left to bear. Keeping that in mind, here are a few of my favorite pieces to help you all survive the brutal month of March!

1) The medium weight scarf:

Tired of the chunky winter knits? Wrap yourself in an over-sized gauze scarf! Pick one in a muted color and pattern for a multi seasonal look, or make statement with a funky floral to transition from winter to spring.

Free People Faded Dye Scarf

Urban Outfitters Floral Print Crochet Eternity Scarf

2) The patterned tight:

Re-incorporate your sundresses, shorts, and skirts by layering with tights.

American Apparel Super Sheer Spiral Tight

3) The boot:

Ditch the Uggs, and opt for a classic pair of leather riding boots or a bright pair of rain boots. Wear them with jeggings, or tights and a sundress for a more urban look.

Target Xhila Kashana Lace-up Boot

Burberry Nova Pop Dégradé Rain Boot

I hope this helps make your daily trek through campus a little more bearable! Stay warm everyone, I'll have more updates in a week!

love from,

Bridget

Spring is Coming Near!

Hey everyone, Emily here!
Minneapolis has been very cold and very snowy this winter. And spring looks so far away right now! So my post today is all about spring/summer clothing pieces i'm loving right now!

Dress is the Arizona Peach Maxi Dress from Spell

The Isabella Tee from Club Monaco

Floral Print Dress from Forever 21

This season I am really into florals, silks, embellishments, and maxis (whether it be a maxi dress or skirt).
Oh and also coming back this season is 70's flared jeans. They sell really nice pairs at the GAP! I just got a pair!

Well until next Thursday,
xoEmily

Beginning!

So far winter in the twin cities has been....SNOWY.  I have never seen so much snow in the span of a couple months and apparently neither has Minnesota with its record breaking numbers of snowfall.  With the collapse of our beloved Metrodome and the number of car towings due to snow emergencies steadily increasing, it seems like nothing good has come of this winter. Wrong! TRAX Fashion Magazine has risen from the Twin Cities snowpocalypse and is ready to make it's mark.  We have tons of things planned for this coming spring, and we will be keeping you posted from this blog.  Each member of our staff will be posting on one day of the week.  I am a little late today, but my day is monday.  So as doctors work hard to  find the cure for Bieber-fever, I will be your daily prescription to cure each case of the Mondays.  Tune in tomorrow for the next staff member.

See you next Monday!
